DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATIONS
JOB DESCRIPTION
(30 hours per week)
The part-time Director of Christian Education at Mifflinburg United Methodist Church in Mifflinburg, PA plays a vital role in encouraging and nurturing faith formation in the lives of children, youth, and adults, in consultation with the pastor. Primary responsibilities including planning and coordination of activities such as the church's After School Program and Vacation Bible School, which take place in the Family Life Center.
The director also supports and promotes Sunday School for all ages, recruiting teachers and assisting with curriculum ideas and materials, aa well as organizing Rally Day. The director also ensures a safe environment for children and youth by serving as Safe Sanctuary Administrator, assisting staff and volunteers to obtain and renew their Safe Sanctuary clearances and complete required sexual abuse awareness training periodically. Some responsibilities are seasonal while others are year-round. They account for approximately 20 hours per week.
Another key role is planning and preparing church communications such as announcements about events and programs for distribution to area news media, preparing the bi-monthly newsletter, creating flyers and posters, posting on the church’s social media accounts and maintaining the church's website. The director leads periodic Communications Team meetings to discuss upcoming needs. The communications responsibilities account for approximately 10 hours per week.

Education and Experience
The successful candidate will have a strong, mature faith in Jesus Christ and a calling to help all age groups grow in their knowledge of Jesus and Christian ideals.
·A self-starter with excellent interpersonal, leadership, teaching, organizational and communications skills.
A bachelor's degree is a strong preference.
At least three years' experience working with children and youth in an educational or church setting is required.
Demonstrated competency using Microsoft Word and Excel is required, as well as interest in learning other software as needed; knowledge of effective social media strategies is desirable.
A work history of attentiveness to detail and accuracy, handling multiple work priorities and meeting deadlines is required.
Must pass PA Clearances.
